"In the Pyramid texts, phrase as "Rise up, O Pepi! You have not died" abound. Throughout Egyptian religious history such denials of death were a constant theme in mortuary literature. As in many others cultures, the Egyptian dead would be treated as if they were merely in a deep sleep and needed to awaken and go about their business. In the BD denial of death appears mostly in the form of euphemism, beginning with the very name given to the funerary workshops where the BD and other funerary equipment were produced - per-Ankh, "The House of Life". The idea behind such euphemisms envolved more than not speaking ill of the dead: an effort was made not to even speak of person's death at all. People who are called simply "dead" in Egyptian religious contexts often seem to be the damned or unhappy dead." (p.160)
